EUROCOPTER SET TO BREAK ALTITUDE RECORD
Eurocopter, the leading helicopter manufacturer of Europe, is trying to set a
high altitude record in the Mt. Everest region with its AS350B3 helicopter.
“An 11-member team from the company has already reached Luklawith an aim to
create a new record in the history of rotary wing aviation,” said Sonam Sherpa,
managing director of Thamserku Trekking Pvt. Ltd, the coordinator of the flight.

He said that the flight will begin from this Thursday and that the team will try
to fly the helicopter at the altitude as high as 9,000 to 10,000 meters.
Delsesalle Didier, a French pilot is leading the team. “The test flight will
last for a month with daily flight during the period,” said Sherpa.
The government issued permission to the team last Tuesday.
Rajesh Raj Dali, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal
(CAAN) said that the government had allowed the team to carry out the test
fight, after thoroughly evaluating the technical aspects of the involved
helicopter and expertise of the crew members.
Government officials said that the test flight will add up to the effort of
rescuing, climbers in high altitude areas. They said this will also enhance
Nepal’s image when associated with a landmark event.
“If it is successful, the attempt will be written down in the annals of aviation
history. The publicity of the success will help to increase the inflow of
mountaineering tourists as rescues will be possible even at higher altitudes,”
said an official at the Ministry of Culture, Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Earlier, Madan KC, ex Royal Nepalese Army officer had rescued a trekker from the
altitude of 6,500 meters, the rescue conducted from the highest altitude so far.
